Visual clarity is a hugely important element when it comes to driving safely; if you don’t have an optimal view of the road in front of you, then you’re putting the your own safety at risk, as well as the safety of your passengers and of other road users. As a result, tens of thousands of people every year are investing in specialised driving glasses and sunglasses. But what are the benefits of these frames and lenses? Exactly how do they improve visual clarity?
When you’re driving in the sun, it goes without saying that glare is an irritating and potentially dangerous element of driving, particularly if the sun is right in front of you. In this situation, many people will simply opt to wear traditional, non-specialised sunglasses, as this reduces glare and improves vision. The problem with this however is the danger presented by changeable weather (which is a pertinent consideration in the United Kingdom); if the sun passes behind a cloud, or the light levels drop dramatically, you find yourself with greatly reduced vision – an obvious hazard when you’re driving. Specialised driving glasses feature polarised photochromic lenses, which adapt to changing light levels. This means your eyewear is constantly adapting to the light, ensuring constant visual clarity and optical performance. The polarised lenses also provide 100% UV protection, giving you the same level of coverage gained from traditional sunglasses.

As well as reacting to the amount of light, driving glasses will drastically reduce glare, which can be as much an issue in the winter months as it can in the summer. Glare from buildings, white road markings and wet roads can be hugely hazardous to drivers, especially when travelling at speed. Specialised driving glasses remove this threat, allowing you to concentrate on driving without the worry of being temporarily blinded.

Would you know what to do? Your car has just hit a patch of black ice on the highway and you go into a skid. Or, you are stranded because your car is stuck in the snow. These are hazards that we all could potentially face when the weather turns cold and we must be prepared.
Pack More Than Just the Luggage
If you are going to be travelling over the winter months, it is essential to keep a winter survival kit in the car. This can easily be prepared and could be a true life saver. Think of it as just packing one more piece of luggage. In your extra suitcase, place a blanket, hat, gloves and a battery powered flashlight. You want to have things with you that will keep you warm if you breakdown. If you will be traveling through remote areas where there is little traffic you also might want to include flares in your emergency bag and a first aid kit.

In the wake of an automobile accident, you may face a number of difficulties. First and foremost, you will likely be dazed or in a state of shock, even if it’s only a fender-bender. It seems that cars are continuing to get smarter. These days, we can navigate without maps, parallel park without touching the wheel, and make a phone call without laying a finger on our mobile. Technology has come to the rescue on many accounts—for those that get distracted changing the station on the radio, we have controls on the steering wheel; for those that can’t handle driving with a phone on the ear, we have hands-free calling features. Now, for those that fumble with their Smartphones to check friends’ status updates, we have OnStar’s new Facebook connectivity. The question is: Is this really a step in a safer direction, or is the feature actually more dangerous for drivers?

The program is being test-run by GM, attempting to compete with the already-established Sync system used by Ford. Whereas Ford offers many features that will be part of the new OnStar system, it certainly doesn’t connect with social media. The new Facebook connectivity will not only read newsfeed that would appear from your friends, but will allow you to verbally give status updates—as well as practice voice texting from the car. This will open the social media superpower not only to mobile devices such as cell phones and PDAs, but also vehicles.

If you pay attention to international news, you may have been surprised and pleased when, a few years back, Mexican President Felipe Calderon declared war on the drug cartels in his country. As time progressed, and word of increased killing and retaliation by the cartels under siege got out to the rest of the world, your pleasure probably turned to horror. And each year the death toll gets higher.
Gun Bullet

Of course, it’s a drop in the bucket compared to other conflicts currently operating around the world, but Mexico is a lot closer to home and it’s not too difficult to imagine such a campaign spilling over onto our doorstep. In any case, it has been a nightmare for many Mexican citizens, especially those that are high profile or have a lot to lose. So it’s no surprise that armored cars have become big business in the last few years.

Although most car companies have revamped design ideas for their newer cars, transitioning from opulent to ergonomic, eco-friendly exteriors, auto thieves still remain on the prowl for the “blinged-out” cars of yesteryear. The annual car theft report printed by USA Today collects three years of theft data, covering car models from 2007 to 2009, and determines theft rankings through theft claims paid out for every thousand vehicles insured; the resulting figures are calculated based on theft rates for each model and the average amount of insurance paid out for each theft.
