An increasing number of motorists are choosing to scrap their vehicles in favour of owning a more fuel and carbon efficient set of wheels. Some people have no choice but to scrap their car if it has been written-off in an accident or has simply become too expensive to repair.

In the past it has simply been a case of dumping an end-of-life vehicle at a scrap yard without a care in the world. However, it is now possible to dispose and recycle cars in an environmentally fashion.

In the UK particularly, car recycling has become a growing phenomenon. An increasing number of people are telling their friends “I’m going to scrap my car and do my bit for the wider environment.”

Over two million cars are recycled a year in Britain in line with the Environment Agency’s end-of-life vehicle directive.

Vehicle depollution

Borne out of the demand from environmentalists and manufacturers alike, the vehicle depollution process is fast-expanding, with a number of vehicle recycling specialists introducing new and improved treatment processes. These are designed to meet new levels as stipulated by the end-of-life vehicle directive. Continue reading →

Development of used car parts market

There has been a significant expansion of the second hand car parts market in recent years. For instance, at vehicle recycling experts ASM Auto Recycling they house over 250,000 parts for a variety of makes and models. For many, purchasing a second hand car part makes financial sense rather than paying through the nose for a brand new part to be fitted into a second-hand car.

Call upon scrap car transporters

There will be some instances where you simply cannot transport your end-of-life vehicle to the scrap yard or the vehicle recycling site. As a result many firms also offer a vehicle transportation service, where they can collect your car for scrap from home or even your place of work. This means you don’t have to lift a finger and you can still get cash for your old car.

Sophisticated vehicle storage

Most auto recycling specialists also have the facility to stock damaged-repairable and end-of-life vehicles on their premises. Vehicle storage is arguably the safest method of storing end-of-life cars, storing them securely, free from water and structural damage ready to be recycled and scrapped.

These recycling techniques are only going to improve with greater refinement in the future, ensuring that future generations are not hampered by our vehicle usage today.

This is true for families – but a lot of businesses need to make use of a good car too to get to conventions, business meetings and more. The problem is that cars can sometimes be over-budget, so it’s essential that people keep their financial constraints in mind before they commit to a car purchase.

Belts are tight these days because of the recession, so it’s important that people think long-term when they consider buying a new car. That includes taking into account considerations such as fuel efficiency, the tax category it falls under and more.

There are lots of new cars for sale online, so people are bound to find the car of their dreams sooner rather than later! No matter what the model, brand or type of car they choose, getting an incredible deal online is easier than most people think. The amount of choice on offer is phenomenal, especially when people have a tight financial plan to work to.

Businesses especially can take advantage of some of the fantastic offers available online. Businesses that have to send staff travelling, dispatching account managers to meetings with clients, or salespeople to industry gatherings to attract new customers, need reliable vehicles at their beck and call. It’s important then that the business has a range of vehicles to utilise, to help their staff get from point A to point B. Buying affordable new cars online is a wonderful solution, and one that many companies throughout the years have used to great effect.

Families are the ones that stand to benefit most though when buying new cars for sale online. The car is so important for daily life, from shopping for groceries to taking the kids to and from school. Getting the right car for their needs and budget will prove to be a lifesaver, and finding a fantastic car for sale online will go a long way to easing the overall financial burden.

Over the last 5 years we’ve all been feeling the pinch of the recession and many of us have been struggling to save the money or secure a loan for new cars. While in some ways a car is a luxury item the reality is that it’s a necessity for most of us. Travelling to work and generally getting around are absolutely vital for modern life. Many of us have struggled to raise the capital to pay for a car and many of us with less than perfect credit ratings have been unable to secure the loans we need to secure a new car.

Thankfully though things have changed and the situation is improving. According to a recent report on the news network KJCT8 the financial situation is beginning to improve and personal loans for cars are beginning to become more readily available. This is great news for consumers who have been struggling to meet their own needs.

The recession meant that, overnight, credit suddenly became expensive. Banks and other lenders decided that the risks associated with credit were much higher. The whole financial world suddenly tightened its wallets and it seemed like the age of rampant cheap credit was finally over. The last five years have made everything a huge struggle for people with our own budgets and finances increasingly being constrained by hew more expensive forms of credit. When it comes to personal loans many of us have been unable to get one and many of us who have previously has issues with credit have struggled to attain even very small loans towards cars. We have, unfortunately, been classified as “high risk” but thankfully things are changing. With that in mind we decided to offer some advice on securing a car loan.

When you’re looking at providers like http://www.bankwest.com.au/personal/personal-loans/personal-loans-overview you want to read their term carefully to see whether you might be considered high risk. Once you’ve done this we’d recommend you get a free credit report from one of the many providers operating around the world. A credit report will tell you exactly what your potential to get new credit is and it will warn you of any problems or black marks on your credit history. If you find you have a less than ideal credit rating, there are a number of steps you can take to improve it. Firstly, you can start building a positive credit rating by using a credit card. This may seem a silly situation but the more you use credit and repay it on time the higher you credit rating will become. It is a good idea to set up one or more of your bills to be paid by credit card and then pay them by direct debit each month. This will quickly build up a positive credit rating. Secondly, the more capita you can put towards your car the less your loan will have to be for; so you will get a smaller loan and be deemed at lower risk of default.

Combined these two factors will make it much more likely for you to secure the car loan you need. The last important factor though is to choose a car that is within your means. It is easy to spend more on a car than you really need so we’d recommend you spend some time calculating your usage of a car and the actual size, power and specs you need. It’s a fairly simple process but look at how far you travel each year and what you use a car for. If you do this then you might find you don’t need a new car at the specs you thought as a cheaper second hand car might still have a good enough lifespan to meet your needs. If you do all these things not only will you get a better car but you’ll also find it much easier to secure a car loan!

Americans continue to be careful with their spending habits, especially with the news that the economy may not be recovering as quickly as most had hoped. One of the factors generally outside of people's control is the price of gasoline, and since there's nothing to be done about the daily commute, people are turning towards more gas efficient vehicles by necessity as much as any sort of desire to help the environment. The government has been pushing that cars be manufactured with a higher standard of gas mileage, and it could be hoped that efforts towards the same goal would help on both the national and local levels. But it seems like the effect may hit Main Street in a much different way. Car dealers are voicing concern that those higher fuel-economy standards will end up forcing them to raise prices on new cars.

These concerns follow a study commissioned by the National Automobile Dealers Association to explore the effects of the Obama Administration's tighter restriction of gas mileage. The study found that between 2017 and 2025, the cost of a new car will rise nearly $3,000. Additionally, the most inexpensive car they'll be able to bring to market will carry a sticker price of $15,700. By their estimation, this will make a new car an expense that's simply out of reach for as many as 4.2 million American households. Continue reading →

One of the factors generally outside of people’s control is the price of gasoline, and since there’s nothing to be done about the daily commute, people are turning towards more gas efficient vehicles by necessity as much as any sort of desire to help the environment.

These concerns follow a study commissioned by the National Automobile Dealers Association to explore the effects of the Obama Administration’s tighter restriction of gas mileage. The study found that between 2017 and 2025, the cost of a new car will rise nearly $3,000. Additionally, the most inexpensive car they’ll be able to bring to market will carry a sticker price of $15,700. By their estimation, this will make a new car an expense that’s simply out of reach for as many as 4.2 million American households.

And according to further research, that’s the best case scenario. It’s impossible with current technology to reach these higher fuel standards without raising prices, and the National Automobile Dealers Association feels that increase could reach over $12,000. That would leave almost 15 million households unable to buy a new car, which could potentially decimate the still-delicate U.S. automotive industry.

It should be noted that the study did not explore how the new regulations will impact motor vehicle operating costs. Considering the price of gas, which continues to rise with no clear end in sight, better mileage standards will certainly end up saving motorists money over the life of the vehicle. The question is, will the savings in fuel consumption make up for the higher purchase price of the car?

The study did a similar analysis on used vehicles, and determined that those prices would rise as well. This wouldn’t be a result of the higher fuel efficiency standards, but a trickling down side effect of the damage to the new car market. Since more and more motorists would find they’re unable to afford a new vehicle, they’d begin to look at used cars. The increased demand would lead to less used cars available, and therefore a spike in prices.

It will be curious to see if certain car manufacturers feel the pinch over others. It seems like the cars that would be most impacted would be the inexpensive impact or sub-impact models, as they generally cater to the lower end of the market. But those vehicles also tend to be incredibly gas-efficient, and will be less affected by the new regulations. Perhaps cars like the Cooper Mini may find a bit more trouble, as they come with a larger price tag and less fuel efficiency than you’d expect. If they end up raising prices to luxury car levels, they may lose a large piece of their market.

In the past, having a car that you plugged in every night might have seemed like something out of a Sci-fi movie, or something the radical environmentalists down the street did. Nobody really owns those cars, do they? As fuel prices edge up higher every time you pass a gas station, electric cars seem to be catching on with the general public more now than ever before. But what exactly is the difference between an electric car and a gas powered car? Are they really more efficient than gas powered vehicles? Would you and your family benefit from having one? These are important questions to ask as you explore the pros and cons of electric cars and see if they might become the car of your future.

See How They Run

Electric cars run on a battery that has to be recharged. These batteries have been one of the major drawbacks for electrical cars, but with each new generation of cars the batteries get lighter, smaller and last longer than before. Depending on your lifestyle, the current market of electrical cars comes with batteries that seem to make having a battery much less of an issue than even five years ago; most expect that will continue to improve, too. Gas powered cars run on...well, gas. Gas powered cars are actually quite inefficient in taking that gas and turning it into something that moves your car. Most of that power is lost to heat, which explains the oil, coolant, and radiator in a gas powered car which all help to cool it down. Overall, electric cars are much more efficient in actually moving with less mechanical stuff under the hood through features such as your engine shutting off at stops.

In the past, having a car that you plugged in every night might have seemed like something out of a Sci-fi movie, or something the radical environmentalists down the street did.

Gas powered cars run on…well, gas.

Range and Convenience

This is that category where gas cars still manage to take the cake. Having to plug your car in for hours on end, instead of filling up at the gas station in a matter of minutes, for most people, is a huge price to pay for an electric car. There is also the thought of infrastructure. In most places in America, there is a gas station on every corner, allowing for a plethora of choices when it comes to refueling gas powered cars. Not so much with electric powered cars. (Although more gas stations these days are equipped with a public charger, it’s usually a limited number.) Another concern is the range of an electric car. Current battery technology makes electric cars have significantly less range than gas powered cars, making long trips not possible with electric cars.

Environment

Electric cars were made to be kinder to the environment, and they are. Skeptics argue, however, that if you source the electricity needed to charge an electric car from coal, then you are still putting out the same amount of carbon emissions as a gas powered car. Electric car enthusiasts counter that there are still thousands of other electric cars which are not powered by coal and that results in a lower carbon footprint overall. Electric cars represent an important step in reducing emissions and our dependency on fossil fuels. As more and more people jump on the electric car bandwagon, the cars will become even more practical and might even have a future with you.

The automobile has come a long way since its relatively humble beginnings as a primitive engine propelled carriage. We now see an array of car manufacturers eager to sell hugely differentiated products with differing practicalities; the Sports Utility Vehicle, the 4×4, People Carriers, Cruisers and City Cars all vie for our hard earned money with huge ad campaigns encouraging us to recognise which of these vehicles is best for our lifestyle. All of these cars and more can be found on motors.co.uk.

The modern car is one of our biggest consumer purchases and a statement about where we fit into society. Many of us spend upwards of 20% of our monthly budgets on motoring (tax, insurance, payments included).

Behind the purchase of a home, the car is probably the second biggest purchase we will make and it has becomes one of the prime material objectives for many consumers. This is why it is important to capitalise on the best deals from the best stocked websites – motors.co.uk has the second biggest classifieds network in the UK and currently has over 160,000 cars listed for purchase.
With so much choice available, it’s important to utilise search engines and classified listings that can pinpoint our preferred vehicle in a market swamped with choice. Motors.co.uk provides exactly this service.

Many of us will steer towards practicality alone and see sense in buying a car geared for modern life. Times have changed and we must be more concerned about fuel economy, insurance and tax, rather than style and status. The Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV) caters for this market and features highly acclaimed cars such as the Ford Focus C-Max, the Vauxhall Meriva and the Nissan Note.
Some of us still chase the pure joy of motoring and may be inclined to something sportier. An affordable Mazda MX5 or Alfa Romeo may be the order of the day. motors.co.uk lists examples of practically the entire fleet of modern motor car, and presents them for sale in an easy to navigate virtual forecourt.

Getting a flat tyre is by far the most common type of vehicle breakdown both on the pavement and off. Just as every driver should be familiar with the basic tyre-changing procedure, every vehicle needs to have the proper tools for a tyre change at all times. The following are some tips for dealing with a flat tyre no matter where you are.

Be Well-Equipped

Everyone will have to deal with a flat eventually, and it could happen anytime, anywhere. That is why you should never leave home without your spare tyre, jack kit and lug wrench. If you are off-roading, you may also need a winch and winch rope to pull yourself out of a muddy spot so that you have better access to your tyre. Ways that you can limit excessive wear on your tyres over time, to help prevent a flat, include maintaining your wheel bearings, rotating the tyres often, maintaining proper tyre balance and vehicle alignment, and letting down the air pressure when off-roading.

Prepare for Changing the Tyre

When you hear that dreaded flopping sound of a flat tyre, you should pull over as soon as possible before you destroy the rim of the wheel. Find the flattest available spot, so that you don’t have to worry about your vehicle rolling when it’s jacked up, and make sure your car is in park and that the emergency brake is engaged. Before you start with the jack, remove the hubcap and loosen the lug nuts while the car is still on the ground, because if you wait until the car is jacked up, the tyre will just spin in a frustrating manner. Continue reading →

Using the Jack

The jack can’t be placed in just any old spot under the car. To get the most effective lift – or any lift at all – the jack must be placed underneath the car’s suspension at the point closest to the flat tyre. The owner’s manual of your car will have a diagram explaining the best place for the jack on your particular model of car. When you begin cranking the jack, double-check its placement once it comes into contact with the car, and then continue cranking. You should get the flat tyre just high enough off the ground so that it can be easily removed and replaced.

Replacing the Tyre

Once the car is jacked up and there is a sufficient amount of clearance under the tyre, you can finish removing the lug nuts from the wheel. At this point, you should be able to remove them by hand. When you remove the tyre, lay it flat while you slide on the spare, put the lug nuts back on, and tighten them by hand until you meet firm resistance. From here, all you have to do is lower the jack until the wheel is firmly on the ground and finish tightening the lug nuts with your lug wrench.

Changing a tyre is super-simple as long as you have all the right tools and techniques, but don’t forget to replace the spare with a new tyre as soon as possible, as spares aren’t meant to be driven on for long distances.

The mechanics of electric cars differ only by the fact that they are powered by electricity rather than petrol. The problem, however, is range and cost, and until those two issues are resolved, petrol-powered cars will continue to rule the road.

Modern Electric Cars

Many a backyard mechanic has tinkered around with home-made electric cars over the generations. While getting them to work isn’t the issue, giving them a decent range is. Today’s electric cars – and they are available, but they will cost you – are hard to tell apart from their petrol-powered cousins. It’s only when they are running that you notice the difference. They boast all the safety features, standard items and options you expect from traditional vehicles. But rather than fill them with fuel, you plug them into a power point. Continue reading →

Home on the Range

Electric cars have a range of between 60km and 160km before the batteries need recharging. Now you may think that is not far at all, and it isn’t when compared to the range of regular combustion engines. But consider this – most of the time we take just short trips, whether it be to the shops, to work or to visit friends. The average trip distance has been calculated at less than 20km. And most of us will travel a total distance of less than 50km every day. So the range of an electric car actually falls well within our daily commute.

That means electric cars are great for inner city or suburban commuters. Country drivers, however, won’t fare so well. And those of us who like to take long drives will find electric cars an inconvenience, because at the moment there are very few places you can recharge the batteries other than your own home.

Recharging Points

Many owners of electric cars describe the freedom they feel by ignoring petrol stations and simply plugging their car into the power when they get home. That’s all well and good if you bring your vehicle home every night and don’t exceed the car’s range. However, as electric cars catch on, recharging points are starting to spring up. While electric cars are still far from being the norm in Australia, in Europe and the United States their popularity means recharging points are becoming more common. Google Maps has even added recharging stations to its list of searchable services. And you will be surprised to know that in the US alone there are more than 600 Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) locations.

The Future

Electric cars have been developed with supercar-like qualities, with some capable of speeds well in excess of 300km/h. So we don’t have to worry about performance, or functionality for that fact. In Australia, electric cars will only begin to become more widely accepted when batteries can hold more charge and public recharging points are more commonplace. Unfortunately, our wide open spaces mean this is going to take longer than other countries. The cost of these cars is also prohibitive. But as car makers embrace the technology (for example, Holden is looking at electric power for its Commodore range thanks to a Federal Government grant) you can be sure to see more people avoiding the petrol station in the not-too-distant future.

There are so many things to see and do in New South Wales that even short driving adventures will provide you with something new and exciting around every corner. With great tourist drives and well-designed scenic routes all over the state, you can easily organise cheap car hire and explore at your own pace. Reconnect with loved ones, meet new friends at a campsite or find pleasure in discovering something new while enjoying the following New South Wales driving adventures.

Kosciuszko Alpine Way

For the alpine enthusiast, there is no better drive in New South Wales than the leisurely Kosciuszko Alpine Way. This 175-kilometre drive will guarantee more dramatic scenery than any other drive in Australia. Beginning in Canberra, the first day’s drive easily gets you to Cooma, which is the gateway to the Snowy Mountains. On day two, drive west towards Jindabyne through stunning lake and mountain scenery, and enjoy passing by quaint mountain villages while taking part in fun activities such as trout fishing, horseback riding or mountain biking. Day three will take you on a beautiful drive over the mountains and through Kosciuszko National Park where you can stop at one of the many lookouts to snap a picture or two, or even take a few hours to do some bushwalking. You can either continue the drive in a loop to end up back at Cooma, or you can turn around and go back the way you came.

Darling River Run

This westward-bound drive is 730 kilometres long, and will take you approximately four days one way. The drive follows the Darling River from the outback town of Walgett towards Wentworth, and passes through true Australian outback. Between Walgett and Bourke you will take in the rich outback history, see ancient Aboriginal fish traps and spot famous wedge-tailed eagles. On day two, follow the gravel road towards the town of Tilpa while enjoying the peace and tranquillity of the open road. On day three it is recommended that you detour and visit the famous town of Broken Hill: the jewel of western New South Wales. Carry on through the red sand hills towards Menindee, which is the Darling River’s first European settlement. The final day’s drive will take you past Mungo National Park, which is famous for the discovery of the oldest significant archaeological remains: the 60,000 year old Mungo Man. As you approach Wentworth, there are many activities to enjoy such as wine tasting, water skiing or fishing. Before heading back, check over your car in preparation for the long return journey. If you’re not confident at car maintenance, call in at a garage or contact a mobile mechanic to be certain that your car is ready for the return journey through the outback.

Rainforest Way

This meandering scenic drive will get you exploring the wonders of the lush, World Heritage-listed rainforests of northern New South Wales. Although you can choose your own route, departing from either Murwillumbah, Lismore, Casino or Kyogle is recommended. The dramatic and impressive spike of Mt. Warning will leave you in awe as you drive along the meandering Tweed River. The beautiful Minyon Falls and Protesters Falls are best discovered on foot, as are the quirky local villages of Nimbin, Tyalgum and Channon. These towns are well known for their organic food markets and bustling festivals, so make sure you plan your drive accordingly!
