Audi makes some really impressive vehicles, and they are definitely nice enough to draw business away from competitors like Mercedes, Lexus, and even Porsche. But let’s face it: Lamborghini is in a totally different class than anything in the Audi lineup…at least until now. The German motor company recently released photos of their new R8 GT Spyder, a hot little 2-seat convertible, and it is one fierce looking automobile. What happens to be of even more interest than the sleek styling, however, is the fact that Audi has basically used this vehicle to deliver a direct challenge to a company that is, by all accounts, way out of their league. They have announced that they fully intend for their new Spyder to beat the Lamborghini Gallardo Performance in a sprint from 0 to 62 miles per hour. That’s a pretty bold claim, but they’ve got plenty of muscle to back it up.

Audi R8 GT Spyder:

First and foremost, it might help if you knew that previous iterations of the Audi R8 (which originally joined the lineup in 2007) were based on the Gallardo platform. They simply used a smaller engine so as not to complete directly. As a result, the R8 is already built much like the Gallardo, with the same basic structure, a lightweight frame, and very similar under-hood components (including the engine and gearbox). In short, it was like the poor man’s version of the higher end Lamborghini sports car. And in that capacity it functioned very well. But apparently not well enough for Audi, which has decided to soup it up and make some real competition for the car that their R8 emulates.

The new R8 GT Spyder will not only feature the same V10 engine that the Gallardo is running, they claim that they will do it better than the original. And the specs so far seem to support their claim. Although the R8 comes in with a top speed of 199 mph, just shy of the Gallardo’s whopping 201 mph, it seems that the Audi wins in the 0-62 sprint with a time of 3.8 seconds, while the Lamborghini just misses the win with 3.9 seconds. It may be splitting hairs, but there’s no denying that the Audi has a faster track time. Of course, it should be noted that these tests were done separately. If you got the same driver on the same course, the results could skew differently. But according to this preliminary data, the R8 is definitely going to give the Gallardo a run for its money.

Speaking of dough, interested parties will likely be keen to know the price difference between these two extremely similar automobiles, and you might be surprised to learn that the Audi could actually come with a slightly bigger price tag. The Gallardo, which sells for about $205,000 (but could go as high as $220,000) can be had on the low end (is there such a thing in the world of exotic cars?) for slightly less than the Audi, which is estimated to start around $220,000. Of course, despite the fact that the Lamborghini offers a certain amount of prestige, and Audi is just the new kid on the block (relatively speaking), it cannot be denied that they have aimed high and hit the target. As to whether or not beating Lamborghini at its own game will pay off, that remains to be seen.

When constructing his Lamboghini he used parts and materials worth around $3,000. Also he used an ambition, enthusiasm, true passion and love for cars which is priceless.

He spends one full year of free time working on the car, but only after working hours, because he is working a full time as a mechanic. The car is Lamborghini yellow and from 300-400 yards a person with a regular knowledge of sporty cars cannot tell the difference.

Lamborghini Announces New Green Plan

Lamborghini announces new green plan for CO2 reductions not only in the car range, but factory wide also.
They will spend about 35 million Euros in large solar panel plant which combined with energy saving plan will achieve factory emissions cut by 30% in the factory by 2010. All Lamborghini vehicles will be 35% more eco-friendly with more efficient engines and lower exhaust figures by 2015. The plans will include modifications and enhancements to the Lamborghini factory in Sant’Agata Bolognese and the design and development centre.

The roof-top plant will produce 1,582 Megawatt hour (MWh) of “green” energy per year, which translates into a 20% reduction in CO2 emissions (-1,067,820 Kg/year) by 2010.
These efforts are made according to the commitment of Lamborghini brand to protecting the environment and make shareholders aware of its new plans in a transparent clear way.
Engines that are going to be used in new Lamborghini vehicles are going to be improved in fuel-efficiency, performance, and further refined using some newly developed technologies and materials.
