A Review – The Volkswagen Touareg

The VW Touareg is a reliable and smart SUV, named after the Touareg people-a nomadic group from the north of Africa.    Like its namesake, the Volkswagen Touareg is built to withstand all types of terrain with strength, control and finesse.  It can be used as both a reliable and comfortable off-roader, and a safe and luxurious family car.  It has a modern, sturdy and yet sporty look to it, perfectly depicting its agile and strong personality.

Due to its highground clearance, 4MOTION permanent 4 wheel drive and Torquey diesel engines, the VW Touareg can cope with a wide variety of rough terrains.  There are a selection of models available in the range with varying suspensions which means that buyers can purchase a car that’s tailored to their specific needs, whether it’s driving through muddy country terrain, or just doing the local school run. The Escape, with its more rugged, off road look, has a unique front end designed to get more clearance, and a matt chrome under body protection.  One of the most outstanding achievements of the Touareg is its accurate and light steering, giving almost unprecedented precision and control compared to other SUVs.  Regardless of the model, they offer an excellent and smooth drive on the road with high speed refinement.

Most will be using the VW Touareg as an urban family car.  The generous space in the interior of the car means that families can travel comfortably, with room for all the luggage that they require, providing a happier and more luxurious journey.  Unfortunately there is only a five seat option, but all members of the family will be comfortable with the amount of space given to each passenger.  The back seats easily fold away to create more luggage space if needed making it perfect for family trips.  It is solidly built and the handling is smooth and easy due to its standard 8 speed automatic gear system.  Safety and security are at the forefront of its design, with head restraints to minimise whiplash, electronic brake force distribution and nine airbags as standard, putting safety conscious parents` minds at rest.

Every model of the VW Touareg range comes fitted with alloy wheels, and its stop start system is relatively un-noticeable.   All models come with a luxurious hide interior, and boast among other things, climate control and Bluetooth.  Additional options include lane keep assistance, radar controlled distance control, blind spot warning, and auto brake.  Its dashboard is fairly standard, but clean and easy to use, and it has a touch screen radio/sat-nav system and a newly designed twisting ignition key.

As with other off road vehicles, the Touareg can be energy-hungry, so VW have created the petro-electric hybrid version which perfectly marries a powerful car with a lower environmental impact.  It is one of the cheapest and most fuel efficient cars in the Touareg range.  The petrol engine is coupled with an electric engine and can be uncoupled from the drive to shut it down completely.  The hybrid version can run in near silence on electric power alone, and also comes fitted with LED daytime running lights just to counteract the lack of noise!  The petrol engine kicks in pretty quickly however, due to the size and weight of the vehicle.

Given its excellent levels of performance, equipment and space, the Touareg does seem to offer great value for money.  The VW Touareg is available for sale in the UK at JCB Volkswagen in Kent.  They have a full range of the models for you to view and test drive, and they’ll also deliver your new Touareg free of charge to any address in mainland U.K.
