Do you know which is the first Wankel-powered vehicle ever produced by Mazda? Remember the Cosmo Sport 110S from 1967? Well, Mazda plans a surprise for all car lovers around the world- the new Mazda RX-7 which will be powered by a rotary engine and is expected to launch in 2017.
It is said that the 16X naturally aspirated wankel engine will be used for the first time in the new Mazda RX-7. This engine was revealed several years ago and it is characterized by 224kW. It is expected that it will be used without a turbo.
In comparison to the model launched in 2002 the new Mazda RX-7 will probably have a lighter weight. It is expected to be built of aluminium. If build by using carbon fiber, the vehicle will be very expensive.
It will probably share the same platform as the next generation MX-5. However it will weigh more and will be larger. It is expected to be offered as a two-seater, however the JDM edition may come with a small back seat.
