5 Best New Retro Supercars

If you ask me, supercars all look the same these days. They all have oversized wheels, impossibly low profiles and in many cases, pointless spoilers. In attempts to continue to innovate and redesign, the cars that we should all be aspiring to are beginning to get, dare I say it, a little boring. Thankfully, some bright sparks have decided that in order to move forwards, you need to look back. They have created cars with top-end specs, but that look like absolute classics. Here are 5 of the best:

Morgan Aero 8

Morgan Aero 8

This beauty is the car that took the Morgan company over 60 years to design. It borrows a large amount of its looks from the old Morgan classics, but has swapped the old wooden chassis for new lightweight allow. This Morgan has slightly more impressive stats than its parents as well:
Engine: 4.8L BMW N62 V8
BHP: 367
Top Speed: 170mph

Volvo P1800 Custom

Designed by the Swedish car maker who is responsible for assembling Koenigsegg supercars, this custom Volvo is based very much on the infamous Volvo P1800 driven by Roger Moore in the UK TV series – The Saint. With an engine borrowed from a Volvo XC90 SUV though, this one has a bit more of a kick.

Engine: Turbocharged 4.4L XC90 V8
BHP: 600
Top Speed: 200mph (predicted)

If ever there was a case of using the past to inspire, this is it. Ford have tried a few GT remakes in the past but they all failed. It is only when they went back to the beginning and stuck very closely to the original GT40 concept that they had a hit on their hands. Of course its taller, wider and longer than the original, but it’s also a good deal faster as well…

Engine: Supercharged 5.4 Modular V8
BHP: 550
Top Speed: 205mph

When considering what the next step should be for Mercedes supercars, thankfully the team took inspiration from one of their most popular cars ever – the Mercedes 300SL. Sure the new one might be a bit meatier and might have lost a few of its classic subtle lines, but if its good enough to be the F1 safety car, I think we can forgive the fact its spent too long in the gym.

Engine: 6.2L Four-Stroke V8
BHP: 563
Top Speed: 197mph

Holden Efijy

Holden is the most well known Australian car manufacturer in the world, and this concept car is a homage to Australia’s most famous car ever, the FJ Holden. This might just be a concept, but Holden have not cut any corners on this brute and there are already calls to put it into production.

Engine: Supercharged 6L V8
BHP: 645
Top Speed: 190mph (predicted)
