Introducing the Caparo T1

Its a Formula One car by look and is surprisingly affordable compared with other cars in this class,  coming in at  a shade below £235,000 / $358,000 USD / €275,900. This figure might sound like a lot, well it is. However the reality is that in comparison to a full F1, custom made by companies such as Ferrari, the T1 is but a fraction of the cost.

Designed by the British team who brought us the McLaren F1, the Caparo T1 claims to be the fastest accelerating road car in the World matching the likes of the Bugatti Veyron at 0 – 60 mph in around 2.5 seconds and an incredible 0 – 100 mph in about 5 seconds. These tremendous speeds certainly place it amongst the quickest accelerating road legal vehicles ever, but at a shade of the $1,700,000 price tag attached to the Bugatti.

So what is it like?

Comparing this car to any other vehicle put simply it does not compare. This car is quite rightfully in the league of super, super cars along with the Veyron. Being a car with so much power, you will want and need to take this quarter of a million pound vehicle for a whip around the race track or a trip to Germany for a stretch on the famous Autobahn, where you can potentially achieve its maximum speed of 205mph / 330 kmh.

The T1 provides the driver two seats, weighs less than 500Kg and has a carbon fibre chassis making it incredibly light compared to the average family car. The fuel tank is large enough to take you 500 miles before needing a refuel that is if it makes it that far but considering the size of the fuel tank this is not that economical, but expected for a car of its stature.

Reliability

The vehicle has had a violent history with several PR events going drastically wrong for the cars manufacturers. Both UK TV Program Fifth Gear and Top Gear had issues on live TV some of which were potentially fatal.

Top Gears Jeremy Clarkson during the publicly aired footage comically said “if you try to go around a normal roundabout at a normal speed in this you’re going to have a huge accident.. When this thing goes on sale there isn’t going to be a ditch in the land or a hedgerow that isn’t full of premiership footballers“.

Overall

The T1 offers something different to the generic super car typically thought of as the Italian might and American muscle; on the other hand this vehicle clearly needs some work to improve its safety record which in turn will increase customer confidence in this fantastic concept motor. Since its launch in 2007 the Sterling Pound has lost some traction against other currencies making it more substantially more expensive than when the prices were initially announced.
