Many people are speculating that eventually the car will die out and we will be using another means of transport as our main way of getting around. However what is the likelihood of some of the options that are out there actually coming in to replace cars and will people really ditch their pride and joy for something brand new? Som
Me of these ideas may sound stupid but people do seem to think they will have an impact on the sales of cars in the future. Are we really going to see the end of contract hire cars?
This idea was around long before the movie Back To The Future part II was released and many people have speculated that this could in fact become a means of transport in the future. Even if this does happen I cannot see it overtaking the car in the amount of people using it and this is simply because it is just a glorified skateboard that hovers.
This is of course already in use by many space explorers and they use it to get back to their ship quickly or to travel distances in a very short space of time. Although realistically it is going to be many years before the public gets a hold on this technology it is not impossible. However, the human body is not made for this type of flight which makes it very difficult to use. On top of this it has a short duration of flight, is very expensive to run and of course learning to drive it safely. All in all this is not going to replace the car thanks to the fact it can only travel for 30 seconds.
This is the least likely out of all of the suggestions as it is merely a fictional idea that has appeared in novels and more notably the Jetsons. The way this works is that the sidewalk quite literally turns into a conveyor belt and it gets people around the city a lot quicker than they would when driving in a jammed street. Although this could potentially work, it is not going to, so make sure you don’t pin your hopes on this one.
So as you can see, three possible modes of transport, three big no’s when it comes to replacing cars on the road.
The car is something that is constantly evolving and it is because of this that there is no way another means of transport is ever going to take it over.
