New 2010 Renault Fluence review, price, test, engines
May 10, 2010 – 6:45 pmInstead of new Megane 3 sedan, Renault‘s offer for the C segment in the sedan class is a new Renault Fluence. This new/old concept is made in Renault assembly line in Turkey where also Megan 2 is build.
Renault Fluence is following the philosophy of Dacia Logan. It is going to be produced in the country with a low labor cost like Turkey and it is going to be offered on the emerging markets like Turkey, Russia, Romania, but also Macedonia, Serbia, Croatia, Montenegro, Albania, Bulgaria and some other countries in the Balkan area and South Eastern Europe. Renault Fluence will also be offered in Israel too. In the next step of sales strategy the Renault Fluence is going to be offered in some other car markets which are not part of the European Continent. Renault Fluence is not only to be one of the cheapest cars in the segment but also the cost of exploitation and cost of ownership is going to be the lowest in the class. The only problem in this Renault effort can be the network of the dealerships in this region which not always are reliable and don’t follow the philosophy of the main headquarters. With this model Renault will offer to more mature customers a combination of the family and business vehicle which can be a real competition to the cars who aim to the family and business segment.
Renault Fluence is a relatively large car and it is between C and D segment. With this car Renault likes to bring a more space for the passengers in the relatively small package. Interior statistics says it has 530 liters of a luggage space which can be accessed by the more than 1 meter wide back door. There are elbow space of 1480mm at the front and 1475mm at the rear seats. In the cabin there are 9 liter refrigerated glove box in front of the front passenger and 2.2 liters of space in the central console. There is couple of more storage boxes around the cabin which makes a total space of 23 liters in the cabin. The interior of the Renault Fluence is modern but simple. The two tones colors are matched in the French style and the other components are simple, elegant and tasty, but without any dash of luxury.
Driver can adjust the driver seat by 240 mm fore/aft and 35 mm in height. He can choose to enter the car with a key or to use wireless system and enter the car hands free with a card which transmits the signals to the car. When the card holder goes away from the car the smart security system will send a signal to the doors to lock.
The new 2010 Renault Fluence will have excellent choice of engines. Two petrol engines will be available from the start. The smaller one is 16V, 1.6-liter 110 horse power with manual and automatic transmission and the bigger one is 16V, 2.0-liter with 140 hp matched with manual transmission or with a CVT (continuously variable transmission). The choice of diesels is bigger and includes 5 engines. Actually it is the one 1.5 dCi diesel engine in five variants. Clients who prefer diesels can choose: dCi 85, dCi 90 DPF, dCi 105, dCi 110 DPF and dCi 110 DPF with the new dual clutch transmission (DCT). The CO2 emission of the diesel engines is below 119 g/km and is Renault eco2 environmental hallmark qualified.
The price for the new 2010 Renault Fluence in the South East Europe, Turkey and Israel is going to start from 15.000 Euros ($19.100) for the model with a petrol engine and lowest trim option.
