The manager of the Audi America calls the future owners of the electric cars like Chevrolet Volt idiots because the expensive electric cars cannot return the value of the initial investment try the life span of the electric vehicle. As the second reason he mentioned the dirty electricity made in the coal burning plants which are in abundance in some parts of the USA. We somehow agree with him, but not everybody in the Audi high management is thinking like their American colleague so they surprised us on the Geneva Motor Show.

One of the most unusual new concepts of the electric car promoted on the Geneva Auto Show was the Audi A1 e-tron concept. A1 e-tron is the last proposal in the Audi newest family of cars known as e-tron. E-tron is the electric car concept with which Audi will run for the money of the people who like to ride greener.
Audi A1 e-tron will be a low volume production vehicle and it is going to be a future platform which will be used by Audi for learning how to make, promote, sell and offer after sale services for this specific family of cars.

Until recently Audi was a big opponent to developing of the hybrids and electric vehicles because was the leader in the manufacturing of the high efficiently diesel cars using the VW diesel technology and diesel motors from the VW.

The front wheels of the Audi A1 e-tron are connected with a powerful 76 KW (102hp) electric motor and the batteries can provide electricity only for 31 miles. The range extending rotary engine is powering the generator which can produce electricity for the additional 124 miles, so the autonomy of the Audi A1 e-tron is close to 155 miles. With this range Audi A1 can take you to the work and back to home.

Top speed is limited to 81 mph. The speed is sacrificed for the preserving of the electricity and autonomy of the car.
Acceleration of the Audi A1 e-tron is from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) for 10.2 seconds which is not impressive if we know that the acceleration of the new Docking XD electric concept car from Croatia from 0 to 100 km/h is for 30-40% less time and the acceleration of Atomik 500 is from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) for just 5,6 seconds.
